Climatic Drivers of Nocturnal Activity: Temperature-Triggered Behaviour in Caracals (Caracal caracal schmitzi) within Indian Ecosystems

The scientific research paper unveils a remarkable ecological insight into the behaviour of caracals (Caracal caracal schmitzi) within the Indian context. Through meticulous analysis of camera trap footage and an extensive review of published research, the paper establishes a compelling link between temperature variations and the activity patterns of these elusive felids. The study's findings underscore a consistent behavioral response in caracals, revealing their heightened nocturnal presence when temperatures reach or dip below 20 degrees Celsius. This novel discovery contributes to the broader understanding of climatic influences on wildlife behavior, exemplifying the intricate interplay between temperature and predator activity in Indian ecosystems.

Revisiting Habitat Preferences of the Critically Endangered Asiatic Caracal (Caracal caracal schmitzi) in India: Exploring the Role of Mountainous Terrain in its Ecology

The hypothesis proposes that the caracal in India may prefer elevated features over flatlands as its habitat, based on a pattern observed in sighting records and comparisons with caracal populations within India and in Iran, South Africa and the UAE. The hypothesis challenges previous assumptions and highlights the need for further scientific investigation to better understand the ecological preferences and conservation needs of the species.

Identifying Suitable Habitats and Corridors for Caracal caracal schmitzi in Western India using Secondary Species Data

Thesis Guide: Dr. Meena Venkataraman,

As the titles states; the study utilised Maxent and Circuitscape softwares with respect to environmental variables to analyze species literature in Western India, thus resulted in uncovering the suitable habitats and corridors for Indian Caracal within the region. The findings provide valuable insights for conservation efforts of this subspecies in India.

Caracals as Ecosystem Guardians: A New Approach to Conservation in India's Semi-Arid Grasslands

In a rapidly changing world, the delicate balance of ecosystems demands innovative conservation strategies. In this thought-provoking article, we delve into the realm of India's semi-arid grasslands, where the absence of apex predators has triggered a cascade of ecological changes. Expounding on the historical significance of cheetahs as umbrella species, the article presents a compelling case for the conservation of caracals. As feline predators, caracals have the potential to restore equilibrium to these ecosystems and safeguard the rich biodiversity that depends on them. By advocating for caracals' prioritization and their role in sustaining a vibrant web of life, the article opens a new chapter in conservation discourse, one that could redefine how we perceive and protect our natural world.
